So close yet unknown

‘Like a bird in the sky.’ That is how Zineb Bidari felt during a recent visit to Dar Zagora. This art space near Lake Lalla Takerkoust in the vicinity of Marrakech recently hosted a workshop for our students. After being initiated into the art of drawing, the girls shared a delicious stew with their teacher Rachid Rafiq and tutor Khadija Maros.
At the end of a day’s work drawing and painting, it was time to discover the surroundings. A stones throw from Marrakech, but it was the first time the girls layed eyes on Lake (Lalla) Takerkoust, the huge reservoir that supplies water and hydroelectric power to the region. This big sister (lalla in Arabic) has played a big role in these girls lives, without them knowing about her. Some things are so close and yet unknown – the girls at Riad Moustaqbel discover something new everyday.
